Students protest Chick-fil-A over anti-gay claims
USA TODAY: “According to Dworkoski, one of the groups that Chick-fil-A has donated to, Exodus International, uses therapy to try and cure gay people from their sexual orientation. The organization is deeply religious and claims to offer “freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ,” the website of Exodus International reads. For her and 6,300 others, the financial support Chick-fil-A has provided to these organizations is unacceptable. New York’s sole Chick-fil-A is located in a NYU dining hall. Voted as the most LGBT-friendly school by the Princeton Review in 2011, NYU has a track record of being open to the LGBT community. Dworkoski pointed out the contradiction.”

Protect LGBT Youth from Bullying in Ohio Schools
I want to reach out to those LGBT teens who are victims of bullying and are struggling with self-identity to help them realize that it does get better. It seems although equality in our country is progressing, there has been a dramatic increase in teen bullying, which devastatingly has led to suicide.
I am distraught with the tormenting videos of beatings, name calling, death threats and other inhumane forms of behavior that are being broadcasted on news channels throughout the US. I posted a video from Change.org above of a teenage student caught on video beating up another student for being gay.
I find it remarkable that someone so young can hold so much animosity toward another. I find it even more amazing that not one single person took a stand to prevent this from happening.
This attack took place at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, which is 45 minutes away from where I went to college. I am disgusted to know of an event that took place so close to where I lived. People need to become conscious about what is happening in our schools. This type of behavior can happen anywhere.
According to the article, this school has no policy that protects its students from being bullied based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The victim in this story is the son of one of the high school’s teachers. Let’s hope an authority figure like this can help make a difference. A policy needs to be changed at Union-Scioto High School and other schools that disregard the safety of these students.
